What Is Loviselle? A Doctor’s Guide to the “Baby Face” Collagen Biostimulator

If you follow aesthetic trends out of East Asia, you have likely come across the term “baby face filler” (童颜针): a category of treatment that gained significant popularity in China before becoming widely requested in Singapore clinics. The name evokes the softness, smoothness and youthful plumpness of younger skin. But unlike the name might suggest, this is not a simple hydration injection or volumising gel. It belongs to a category of injectables that works quite differently from conventional fillers.

One of the newer PLLA-based products in this category is Loviselle (also written as Löviselle), a Chinese-made collagen biostimulator now available at selected Singapore aesthetic clinics, including Zion Aesthetics.

This article explains what Loviselle actually is, how it works at a biological level, who it may suit, and how it differs from other injectable treatments.

What Is Loviselle, and Why Is It Called a “Baby Face” Filler?

Loviselle is an injectable treatment based on Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) — a biodegradable, biocompatible material that has been used in medical applications for decades, including in dissolvable sutures.

Developed by Changchun SinoBiomaterials Co., Ltd., Loviselle belongs to the category of collagen biostimulators: injectables that work not by placing a gel to fill space, but by triggering the body’s own collagen production over time. The improvement is gradual and progressive rather than immediate.

The “baby face” descriptor refers to a set of qualities associated with younger-looking skin: better cheek support, smoother facial transitions, softer smile lines, improved skin firmness and a more rested, refreshed overall appearance. In younger skin, collagen is denser and more organised. With age, collagen declines and the skin gradually loses its structural support. Loviselle aims to encourage the body to rebuild part of that collagen network from within.

It is worth clarifying that this is not about making the face look childish or artificially round. A well-planned Loviselle treatment respects the patient’s natural anatomy and aims for a result that looks naturally refreshed.

How Does Loviselle Differ From a Hyaluronic Acid Filler?

This is perhaps the most important distinction to understand, and one that is frequently misunderstood.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are gel-based injectables. They provide immediate volume by physically occupying space beneath the skin. They are useful when a patient needs precise contouring, structural correction or immediate volume replacement. HA fillers are also reversible with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which is one of their practical advantages.

Loviselle (PLLA) works differently in almost every respect:

Hyaluronic Acid Filler

Loviselle (PLLA)

Active ingredient

Hyaluronic acid gel

Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) microspheres

Mechanism

Adds volume directly

Stimulates the body’s own collagen production

Onset

Immediate

Gradual — over weeks to months

Duration

6–18 months (area-dependent)

May last over 30 months after a full course

Reversible?

Yes, with hyaluronidase

No

Primary goal

Volume, contour, structural correction

Collagen regeneration, firmness, facial support

The two approaches are not interchangeable. Some patients may benefit from both, used for different purposes. The right choice depends on the specific concern, the area of the face, and what the underlying cause of the change actually is.

How Does Loviselle Work?

To understand why this treatment works the way it does, it helps to understand what ageing actually does to the face beneath the surface.

Over time, several changes happen simultaneously:

  • Collagen production declines — the skin loses part of its natural support network, becoming less firm and less resilient
  • Skin becomes thinner, making texture changes and fine lines more visible
  • Facial fat compartments gradually reduce and shift, leading to deflation in areas like the cheeks and temples
  • Ligaments and deeper support structures loosen, contributing to early jowling and softening of the jawline
  • Bone support changes over time, so the overlying soft tissues may appear less lifted

When Loviselle’s PLLA microspheres are injected into the appropriate tissue layer, they act as a scaffold. The body recognises the material and initiates a controlled, localised collagen-forming response around the particles. As the PLLA is gradually and safely broken down and absorbed — its degradation products are carbon dioxide and water — the new collagen it has stimulated remains in the tissue. This is what creates the gradual improvement in facial firmness and support over the months following treatment.

The change is not visible immediately. Most patients begin noticing improvement after several weeks, with the fuller effect developing over two to three months as collagen production progresses.

What Areas Can Loviselle Treat?

Loviselle is most commonly used for areas of the face affected by diffuse volume loss and deflation:

Cheeks and mid-face. The cheeks are often the most significant treatment area because midface support influences the appearance of the rest of the face. When cheek volume declines, the nasolabial folds can deepen and the lower face may appear heavier. Restoring support here can have a positive effect on the broader facial appearance.

Smile lines (nasolabial folds). As facial fat compartments deflate and facial support weakens, the folds running from the nose to the corners of the mouth can deepen. Collagen biostimulation in the surrounding areas may help address this over time.

Eye area (periorbital region). Volume loss and reduced support around the eyes can contribute to periorbital creases, fine lines around the crow’s feet area, and a more tired or droopy appearance to the eye region. Loviselle may be considered to help restore underlying structural support in the surrounding zones, such as the upper cheek, temple and lateral orbital area which can in turn improve the appearance of fine lines and softness around the eyes.

Temples. Temple hollowing creates a more tired or gaunt appearance. Loss of volume here also affects the overall shape of the upper face.

Lower face and early jowling. Loss of support in the lower face and along the jawline can contribute to early jowling and softening of the jaw definition.

General facial deflation. Patients whose face has taken on a flatter or more tired appearance due to diffuse volume loss across multiple areas may be suitable candidates.

An experienced doctor will determine which areas are appropriate based on your individual anatomy during consultation.

Who May Be a Suitable Candidate?

Loviselle may be worth considering for patients who:

  • Have early to moderate facial volume loss or soft tissue deflation
  • Notice that their face looks tired even when they are well-rested
  • Feel that their face has lost the soft fullness of younger years, but do not want an obviously filled appearance
  • Have early periorbital lines, crow’s feet, or a tired, droopy appearance around the eyes
  • Want gradual, natural-looking improvement rather than immediate results
  • Have reduced skin firmness or deeper nasolabial folds as a concern
  • Understand that results from collagen biostimulation develop over time and require a course of sessions

It is generally less suited to patients who need immediate results, require precise localised volume correction, or have expectations that fall outside what this category of treatment can address.

Patients with a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, active infection at the treatment site, known sensitivity to PLLA or product components, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding are typically not suitable candidates. The safety and efficacy of PLLA have also not been established in individuals under 18 years of age. A doctor should assess suitability individually.

What Does a Course of Treatment Involve?

Because Loviselle is a planning-based injectable — results build progressively — a course of treatment rather than a single session is typically recommended.

Consultation. A thorough consultation is the essential first step. The doctor will assess facial proportions, skin quality, areas of volume loss and laxity, and any previous aesthetic treatments. The goal is to understand the underlying cause of the concern and whether Loviselle is the most appropriate approach.

Treatment sessions. A typical course involves three to four sessions spaced several weeks apart, generally at three- to six-week intervals. This spacing allows the doctor to assess how the collagen response is developing and build the result progressively rather than overcorrecting in a single sitting.

What to expect during a session. Topical numbing cream is applied beforehand. Loviselle is then injected into the appropriate tissue layer across the treatment area. Some immediate fullness may be visible after treatment, but this is partly due to the injected fluid and associated swelling, and it reduces as this is absorbed over the following days. The true collagen-stimulating effect develops in the weeks and months that follow.

Post-treatment care. Aftercare typically includes avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, avoiding alcohol and excessive heat exposure (including saunas and hot yoga), and keeping the skin clean. Your doctor may advise specific massage instructions depending on the area treated. Attending follow-up appointments is important because collagen stimulation develops gradually, and review allows the doctor to assess progress and plan any further sessions accordingly.

A Framework for Thinking About Your Own Face

Common and expected side effects include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, small needle marks and short-term firmness at injection sites. These generally settle within days to a week.

Less common risks include small lumps or nodules, uneven distribution, delayed swelling, asymmetry and inflammatory reactions. As with all injectable treatments, vascular complications are rare but serious. Patients should seek prompt medical attention if they experience severe pain, skin colour changes or any visual symptoms following treatment.

Unlike HA fillers, Loviselle cannot be dissolved once injected. This makes precise placement and appropriate technique especially important, and underscores the value of choosing an experienced doctor.

How Long Do Results Last?

Loviselle is marketed as a long-lasting PLLA collagen biostimulator, with results that may last over 30 months after a complete course of three to four sessions. This reflects the fact that new collagen — rather than an injected gel — is what produces the improvement.

However, longevity varies between individuals and is influenced by age, skin condition, metabolism, lifestyle, treatment area, dose, injection technique, the number of sessions completed and ongoing sun exposure. Results are not permanent. Ongoing collagen decline means that maintenance sessions may be advisable over time.

Can Loviselle Be Combined With Other Treatments?

Yes. Loviselle can be part of a broader facial rejuvenation plan and is often complementary to other treatments depending on the patient’s concerns. For example:

  • Structural HA fillers may be used alongside Loviselle where specific, targeted volume correction is also needed
  • Energy-based devices and skin-tightening treatments (such as Thermage or HIFU) address laxity at a different layer and can be combined depending on timing
  • Pigment lasers and resurfacing lasers address surface skin quality and pigmentation issues
  • Botulinum toxin addresses dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement
  • Skin boosters and polynucleotides address surface-level skin hydration alongside the deeper collagen-building effect of Loviselle

Timing matters when combining treatments. A doctor should advise on sequencing to allow the skin to respond appropriately and avoid unnecessary inflammation.

A Note on Expectations

The patients who tend to find Loviselle most appropriate are those who understand that it works gradually, who are not seeking dramatic or immediate change, and who want the result to look naturally refreshed rather than obviously treated. The aim is restored facial support and improved skin quality — not sculpted volume or structural correction.

As with all aesthetic treatments, results are individual. A thorough consultation with a licensed medical doctor is the most important step before proceeding, both to confirm suitability and to ensure that the treatment plan is designed around your specific anatomy and goals.
